Tisha B'Av Service and Study - Saturday, July 17th, 8:30 pm Tisha B'Av (the Ninth of Av) is an annual day of mourning for the destruction of the Temples in Jerusalem and other tragedies befalling us as a people. The rabbis taught that these tragedies reflect times of senseless hatred and our spurning of communal institutions and societal norms. More recently, Tisha B'Av has taken on an environmental aspect, urgently recognizing the ongoing destruction of the Earth we share. And Tisha B'Av begins a seven-week period leading us into the High Holidays. We will gather on Saturday evening indoors at CBI to mark this moment of both historical and contemporary importance. A very brief weekday evening Maariv service (in lieu of Havdalah) will begin at 8:30 p.m., and then together we will read in English the book of Lamentations, which is the traditional reading for Tisha B'Av.
