Music, Energy and Community

Updated: Oct 13, 2021

Music is the carrier wave of almost everything we experience together at CBI on Friday night or Saturday morning of Shabbat, on the High Holy Days, and for our other holidays. You are part of that every time you sing along, here in three dimensions at CBI or in your zoomicle, or move with the rhythm of the music (watch out – it might lead to dancing!), or close your eyes and let the sounds fill you. Would you like to be a part of the group of musicians who start the wave of sound and guide it and grow it? We are looking for instrumental musicians and singers. Maybe we are looking for you.

Maybe you play an instrument that might be a good fit with the kinds of music we play and sing – piano, accordion, guitar, bass, violin, cello, flute, clarinet, hand drums, or maybe something I have not thought of yet. We have sheet music for most of the music we play now and for some tunes we hope to add to the mix, so ability to read music is a plus. If you play guitar or bass from chords, we’ve got that covered, too. If you just are really good at playing by ear, that will work.

Singers – we need you, as well. Ability to read music is great, but singers who learn by ear are welcome. You would not be signing up for a choir; what I have in mind is a group of vocal musicians who are familiar with the music and by their singing make everyone feel comfortable joining in. And we can begin adding harmony singing when that works.

Get in touch with me, Hazzan Steve, for more information or to begin singing or playing music. You can email me or catch me for a conversation after a Friday night or Saturday morning service.
