Rabbi Lisa's Message

April, 2024

We are approaching the 6th month mark since October 7th. The ongoing war between Israel and Hamas has caused unrelenting heartache and suffering. The loss of life and the loss of hope have paralyzed us. Polarization on the issues around this conflict have created widening, division between people, families, and groups. Finding our way back to each other, to some sense of calm and safety feels impossible.

We are also approaching Pesach, which begins on the evening of Monday, April 22nd. We learn in the Passover story that the impossible is possible. Suddenly, where imminent danger and lack of all viable options face us, there is an opening. There is a way out. There is a path to the other side. Miracles. Whether or not we believe in them, fantastic miracles are at the dramatic center of this story and allow for a different outcome.. An outcome where expansiveness, liberation, and security are fully realized.

For the past several weeks, I have been sharing a prayer during services that gives me comfort and hope. These words speak to the possibility of miracles and point us to an elevated perspective. At this time, peace may seem achievable only through miracle. Whatever the path to freedom and security for all people, may our prayers for peace be heard.
